History
1996: The Electronic Engineering Major started out at the Technological and Basic Sciences Faculty, where it remained for the first two years. It was created as per Higher Council Agreement No. 085, September 17th, 1996, and is currently registered in the ICFES information system under code 48114. This was put on record as an institutional communication on November 22nd, 1996.
1997: The first students started class in February.
1998: The major was transfered to the Faculty of Engineering in December, where it was met with a certain apprehension. This situation would change as the faculty garnered its own place within the infrastructure of the faculty.
2002: The first promotion of electronic engineers of the University of Quindío graduated on August 16th.
2005: The National Ministry of Education qualification was obtained as per Resolution 1081, April 1st, 2005. This was one of director and founder of the major Andrés Granados Sanabria's last official actions.
2012: The National Ministry of Education Qualification is renewed as per Resolution No. 5455, May 1st, 2012.
Mission and Vision
Mission
The Electronic Engineering Major at the University of Quindío has two purposes: Contributing to the development of the region through social and scientific projection, and training engineers who are able to foster and maintain technological and innovative development with a global perspective, through sound knowledge related to electronics applied to the telecommunications, digital systems, automatization and control areas, with capabilities for creating, designing and implementing engineering solutions.

Professional Profile
The University of Quindío will train electronic engineers whose main fields of action will be automatization and control, as well as telecommunications and digital systems, while providing insight into the design, analysis and optimization of the systems associated to these areas.
Occupational Profile
The University of Quindío Electronic Engineer will be capable of analyzing, modeling, designing and implementing circuits and electrical systems, as well as participating in multi-disciplinary teams aiming to manage, upkeep and implement production lines and telecommunications systems, and also proposing, evaluating and managing projects.
